Bio Freeze

What is Biofreeze?

If you deal with chronic back aches or arthritis, or regularly sustain bruises and other sports related injuries, you may have heard of a product called Biofreeze® that promises long-lasting pain relief from these ailments. Biofreeze® is a non-oral pain reliever that helps to block pain signals before they reach the brain through the use of cooling menthol.

Biofreeze® is currently available at local retailers and online, however, Partners in Physical Therapy also carries the professional formula of this product in pain relief creams and roll-ons for those patients that are interested.

What can Biofreeze® help with?

As stated on their website, “Biofreeze® Professional begins with the original Biofreeze® formula and optimizes key ingredients based on scientific research for a longer-lasting experience. It also has a smoother application with faster absorption for alleviating pain [and is] a great alternative to other pain relievers because it is non-systemic, non-narcotic and contains no NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), salicylates or addictive substances.”

This product contains menthol, which stimulates cold receptors that create a cooling effect underneath the skin. This results in nearly 2x as much pain relief as an ice pack provides.

Biofreeze® can aid in pain relief for many conditions and painful symptoms resulting from injuries related to work and sports, including:

  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • Backaches
  • Arthritis
  • Sore joints
  • Bruises
  • Muscle aches
  • Muscle tears
